IT spending in healthcare sector to reach $14bn by 2018

Healthcare markets throughout Western European are expected to invest in more IT services.

According to an IT spending forecast report published by IDC health Insights, the healthcare sector is forecast to grow from $13.2 billion in 2013 to $14.6 billion in 2018.

The UK remains the largest IT market, while Germany continues to grow by three per cent.

According to the report, growth will be driven by software with an increase of 4.6 per cent, while investments in IT services will grow by 1.6 per cent.

Hardware spending is expected to decrease by 2017 by one per cent.

Silvia Piai, EMEA research manager at IDC Health Insights, said: “Health authorities and decision makers are turning to digital transformation to reform healthcare systems.

“Integrated care initiatives and hospital modernisation are two areas where digital transformation is expected to have a major impact.”
