Intel has promised to spend $300 million to diversify its workforce by 2020.
Brian Krzanich, Intel’s CEO, announced at CES that the company’s new program will help minorities and women achieve greater representation in tech companies.
Krzanich stated that “Intel will lead by example” on the issue, and that the lack of diversity within technology is something the whole industry should work on.
The company will hire differently in the future to reach its goal.
Intel also intends on partnering with different companies, such as the E-Sports League and the National Center for Women in Technology, as well as education institutions.
This news comes after Microsoft launched its ‘Women in Tech’ initiative in India last year.
The firm announced that it will begin to train and mentor one million women for a career in the IT industry.
CompTIA’s Nancy Hammervik also highlighted the issues of the IT industry at PCR’s Woman of the Year event, as less women are looking to take on a career within IT.
