Sony has taken to the stage at CES this year to show off a bunch of new products and even gave the hacks a mention.
The company’s CEO Kaz Hirai stepped out onto the stage and began by addressing the recent Sony Entertainment hacks, saying that he was proud of how the employees dealt with “one of the most viscious and malicious cyber attacks in recent history."
He then went on to introduce a number of guests to unveil a range of new products.
Here is a quick round up:
The brand new Sony Walkman focuses on what is was built for, to deliver a high quality audio experience.
It runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which was launched back in 2012, and even though it allows users to download apps from Google Play, it doesn’t match up to today’s smartphones. But that’s because it focuses on what it is built for: music. It supports DSD, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, Apple Lossless, Bluetooth wireless streaming and NFC, and is set for release in Spring this year.
The only thing, however, is that it has a $1,119.99 pricetag.
The smartwatch 3 features a 1.6 inch 32.x32 TFT LCD transflective display, is water protected and boasts native music playback, intelligent sensor tech and an inbuilt GPS sensor.
Developers such as Golfshot and iFit are already creating Android Wear experiences with the Sony device’s standalone capability.
A release date and price are yet to be announced.
Android powered smart TVs
There have been numerous TVs unveiled, launched and rumoured this year, and here is Sony’s.
Sony’s new smart TVs will run on an all new Google platform for television: Android TV. There will be 11 new Bravia LCD TVs from 43 up to 75 inches, some of them being just 4.9mm thick.
The devices will be powered by Sony’s own 4K X1 processors, and will come with a remote that acts as a track pad, with a microphone built in for voice commands.
The new TVs can be expected around springtime – no prices have been suggested as of yet.
Detachable smartglasses display
Unsurprisingly Sony is shooting for the smartglasses market to take on Google Glass who currently hold the reigns in that market.
However, Sony could be onto something here with its detachable smartglass display that can fit onto any spectacles. A micro screen rests in front of the wearers right eye sparking to life when needed.
No release dates have been announced as of yet, nor has a suggested price, but no doubt it’ll be more on the expensive side.
