CEO and president BK Yoon urges firms to collaborate on IoT projects

Samsung portable SSD and 105-inch bendable TV showcased at CES 2015

Samsung has unveiled a host of new products at this year’s CES in Las Vegas, including a portable SSD and bendable TV as well as its thoughts on the IoT industry.

The Portable SSD T1 is designed for business travellers, creative professionals and content creators who need to transfer large amounts of data on the go.

It is available in 250GB, 500GB and 1TB storage capacities and will launch globally in 15 countries, including the US and UK, in late January.

The drive has sequential read/write speeds of up to 450MB/s. The write speed is as responsive and fast as an internal SSD and up to 100 times faster than an external hard disk drive (HDD).

Depending on the file size, the Portable SSD T1 has a data transfer speed four times faster than an external HDD and takes only eight seconds to transfer a 3GB movie file and 27 seconds for a 10GB movie file.

Following on from its 85-inch bendable ultra HD TV at last year’s CES, Samsung is back with an even bigger 105-inch bendable ‘super ultra’ HD TV.

Using the remote control, users can press a button to curve the edges of the TV when required.

As well as new products, Samsung’s president and CEO, BK Yoon, delivered the opening keynote speech at CES, where he spoke about how greater openness and collaboration across industries is needed to propel the Internet of Things market.

“The Internet of Things has the potential to transform our society, economy and how we live our lives. It is our job to pull together — as an industry, and across different sectors — to make true on the promise of the Internet of Things," said Yoon.

"The Internet of Things is not about ‘things’. Instead, it is about people. Each person is at the centre of their own technology universe, and the IoT universe will constantly adapt and change shape as people move through their world."
