Ice Bucket Challenge and Flappy Birds also amongst the most searched terms in 2014

Google’s top ten 2014 search terms revealed – including iPhone 6 and Robin Williams

Each year, Google releases a list of its top searches, and this year the death of Robin Williams was one of the most popular global results.

The late Robin Williams became one of the most searched topics online, after a petition on Change.org resulted in Williams becoming a non-player character (NPC) within World of Warcraft.

Other topics that were trending this year included the app Flappy Birds and the ALS Bucket Challenge.

It’s no surprise that the Ice Bucket Challenge was one of the most searched subjects, as tech execs such as Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg threw buckets of cold water over their heads to help raise money for charity.

Flappy Birds was also removed offline this year, after developer Dong Nguyen received complaints from parents and teachers that his game was damaging their lives.

The iPhone 6 was also the top searched consumer electronic device, closely followed by the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Nexus 6.
