Microsoft is now accepting Bitcoin as a payment option for its digital content.
According to the company’s payments page, customers living in the US can now use the payment method to purchase products form the Windows and Xbox online store.
The option allows customers to purchase Xbox games, however, digital products such as Microsoft’s Lumia smartphone are not included.
A statement read on Microsoft’s payment page: “Digital gift cards give you the ability to conveniently purchase digital content from participating Windows and Xbox stores without having to use a credit card.”
The company is integrating BitPay to process Bitcoin transactions and any money added through Bitcoin cannot be refunded.
However, Microsoft isn’t the only company to accept the virtual currency – Dell also started to accept Bitcoin earlier this year.
Bitcoin was first created by developer Satoshi Nakamoto back in 2009 and has a decentralised peer-to-peer payment network.
Earlier this year Scan became the first UK PC retailer to accept Bitcoin.
