Shops across the UK are preparing for Small Business Saturday this weekend.
The event, which supports SMEs, aims to encourage customers to switch from retail chains to independent stores.
Small Business Saturday is a US tradition that celebrates small business entrepreneurship, which launched in the UK last year.
This year organisers are also hoping for an increase in consumer engagement from 48 per cent in 2013.
Kate Smith, regulatory strategy manager at Aegon UK, said: “This year’s Small Business Saturday offers the UK’s smallest businesses a chance to steal the limelight as we approach the biggest spending season of the year.”
From June 2015, automatic enrolment will also be available to thousands of employers with fewer than 50 members of staff.
Smith added: “Unlike larger employers, smaller employers often won’t have the benefit of a dedicated HR team and will have to rely on themselves to get to grips with their auto-enrolment responsibilities.”
