New product roundup: Philips’ 4K display, Seagate NAS and more

MMD, the technology company and brand license partner for Philips monitors, has revealed the latest addition to Philips’ range of TVs, including the 40-inch 4K UHD display with 3840×2160 resolution.

The screen offers four times the resolution of Full HD and packs four times as many pixels into the same area, plus a range of ports are also available including a DisplayPort 1.2, USB 3.0 and HDMI 1.4. The TV is now available from selected retailers with a price of £549.

This week, StarTech has released the Thunderbolt 2 Laptop Docking Station, allowing users to connect their laptop to any other peripherals. It has a connection of up to 20 Gbps, SPDIF optical audio output, an eSATA port and an integrated security lock.

It will be available for £308.99 from various distributors, including Entatech, Ingram Micro and Exertis.

Epson’s new scanner devices Perfection V800 and V850 Pro have been updated with LaserSoft’s scanner software SilverFast 8. The software provides more than 120 adapted film profiles for the conversion of film negatives into positives. The software also helps to improve productivity and increases Dynamic Range, making each scanner suitable for fast image archiving.

The Epson V800 already comes equipped with SilverFast SE 8, while the Epson V850 includes SilverFast SE Plus 8.

Elsewhere, Seagate has increased the capacity of its enterprise NAS drive from 4TB to 6TB. The company has also extended the NAS drive’s warranty to five years, as well as making it suitable for 1-16 NAS bay enclosures.

For those who wish to turn their smartphone into a remote control can now do so, with the One For All Smart Zapper. The device can convert a tablet or smartphone into a fully functional remote control via Bluetooth connectivity.

The Smart Zapper works as a Bluetooth ‘bridge’ that sits on a coffee table and translates Bluetooth Smart signals into infrared. Using the free Nevo app, the Zapper can be configured with a smartphone or tablet. It is priced at £34.99 and is available from Maplin.

In other news, the Duo-Link On-The-Go Flash Drive has been launched by PNY Technologies. It comes equipped with USB and micro-USB connectors, plus it is also available in 16GB and 32GB capacities.

Users are able to transfer data, stream videos and free up internal storage from other devices such as smartphones with the Duo-Link. The 16GB variant is priced at £12.99, while the 32GB will cost £19.99.
