Microsoft to remove Clip Art images from Office.com

Microsoft is removing Clip Art images from Word and PowerPoint.

The tech giant has decided to kill off Clip Art after recognising that there are currently a large number of free images available on the web.

Most references to Clip Art disappeared with Office 2013; however, users were still able to access the images via the Office.com Clip Art option. This is now going to be replaced by Microsoft’s Bing images, with the firm filtering images to ensure they’re based on the Creative Commons licensing system for commercial use.

Doug Thomas, author at Office Blogs for Microsoft, said in a blog post, which has now been removed: “The Office.com Clip Art and image library has closed shop.

"Usage of Office’s image library has been declining year-on-year as customers rely more on search engines."
