G-Cloud program has increased the maturity of buyers

UK gov ‘ahead of the curve’ with G-Cloud

The UK government is ahead of the curve with G-Cloud, according to IDC.

Compared to other countries in Western Europe, the UK government is progressing further in terms of cloud adoption.

The analyst believes that the G-Cloud program has increased the maturity of buyers and providers.

IDC also believes that the key factor that drove UK government CIOs towards the cloud was the ‘common approach to information assurance adopted by G-Cloud’.

Massimiliano Claps, research director of IDC government insights, said: “Recent IDC conversations with UK government IT executives and providers indicate that the market will require eight to 12 months to completely adjust to the new guidelines.”

The G-Cloud program included the launch of a pan-government accreditation mechanism that became operational after the launch of the CloudStore in 2012.

Claps added: “IDC expects government CIOs and CISOs will place higher trust in vendors that gained pan-government accreditation, or that were accredited by individual departments that deal with secret information assets such as defense or police forces.”
