BT is also having discussions with O2

EE owners in talks to sell mobile network to BT

EE’s parent companies, Orange and Deutsche Telekom, have confirmed they are in talks to sell the mobile network to BT.

"Deutsche Telekom and Orange are having highly preliminary exploratory discussions with BT, although it is too early to state whether any transaction may occur," said Orange on behalf of both companies.

"Deutsche Telekom and Orange will make further announcements if and when appropriate."

Earlier this week, BT confirmed that it was also having discussions with O2.

"We have received expressions of interest from shareholders in two UK mobile network operators, of which one is O2, about a possible transaction in which BT would acquire their UK mobile business,” stated BT.

The BBC reports that BT’s shares climbed 2.2 per cent after the EE owners confirmed they were in talks with the UK firm.
