Korean League of Legends (LoL) gamer, Lee Sang-hyeok, is allegedly being paid $1 million to play the game.
Reports suggest that two Chinese media companies have tendered offers on players from LoL team SK Telecom 1, with the most money being offered to Sang-hyeok.
Sang-hyeok reportedly resigned from his gaming team in September, and has since been offered various amounts from Chinese media companies.
It’s speculated that the player is currently making around $98,000 to $147,000 a year from playing LoL according to Sinna Games, however, this does not take into account any extras made from prizes or revenue paid from streaming services.
It is reported that sources closer to the matter claim that Sang-hyeok was offered a $490,000 transfer fee by one company, along with an annual salary of $196,000.
Another company reportedly offered a $294,000 transfer fee and a two-year contract worth $686,000.
Considering the growing gaming culture in e-sports in both Korea and China, it’s no wonder companies are trying to snap up the player.
