Microsoft it set to enter the wearable tech market within the next few weeks with its own smartwatch.
Forbes has reported that ‘sources close to the project’ say the device will passively track the wearer’s heart rate and will work across different mobile platforms.
It is thought that Microsoft is working on developing apps for Windows Phone, iOS and Android to support users with notifications.
The smartwatch will mark the company’s first foray into the wearable tech market and it thought to have a battery that lasts more than two days on a single charge.
Last week, Microsoft revealed that one million users have already signed up to its Windows 10 Technical Preview. The latest operating system was unveiled last month and is expected to launch in 2015
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was criticised earlier this month on social media after making comments about women’s pay. When asked for his advice to women who are uncomfortable asking for a promotion or pay rise, Nadella responded: "It’s not really about asking for the raise, but knowing and having faith that the system will actually give you the right raises as you go along.”
He has since clarified his stance on the issue, tweeting: “Was inarticulate re how women should ask for raise. Our industry must close gender pay gap so a raise is not needed because of a bias.”
