Microsoft has announced that it will begin to train and mentor one million women for a career within the IT industry in India.
The ‘Women in Tech’ initiative will be carried out over the next 12 months and will include school students, young female students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) colleges, IT professionals and entrepreneurs.
Microsoft aims to help develop their IT skills and encourage them to build a career in the IT industry.
In addition, 150,000 girls across 1,000 high schools will participate in the program during the next year.
The tech firm also aims to prepare young women in higher education – including STEM courses – for a career in technology, by increasing their technical preparedness, career counselling and mentoring.
Microsoft will also hold Microsoft Ventures, which will help to mentor 30 female entrepreneurs and accelerate their business.
PCR’s own Woman of the Year event takes place next month, which follows on from the success of PCR’s Top 50 Women in Tech feature earlier this year.
It will take place on Friday October 17th at Home House, a private members’ club in Portman Square, London.
