Polaroid goes after GoPro with budget action cam

The Cube, which goes on sale today, is a small HD action camera priced at $99 from Polaroid.

The company has developed the new tiny camera for those who cannot afford the pricier versions from GoPro.

As the camera’s name suggests, the Cube is small measuring at just 35mm on each side, giving it extra portability. Plus, it is waterproof and shockproof, allowing users to capture images in any weather.

The camera also supports a Micro SD with up to 32GB, a micro USB port and a switch for choosing between 720p or 1080p resolution.

It can record videos and take photos with its 124 degree wide angle lens and has a built-in battery that lasts up to 90 minutes.

Scott Hardy, CEO of Polaroid, said: “GoPro has done an incredible job building a new category in the digital imaging space.

“But when we look at that market, we think it can be much bigger by not just targeting the professional and amateur and aspirational thrill-seekers but going after more of the lifestyle segments.”

The Cube also comes with a range of mounts including a Bike, Monkey, Tripod and Strap mount.
