Phones 4U’s administrators PwC plan to close 362 of the mobile phone retailer’s stores.
The firm was forced into administration last week after Vodafone and EE decided not to renew their contracts.
Rob Hunt, joint administrator and partner at PwC, said in a statement: “It is with much regret that we have today made the difficult decision to close a large number of stores.”
Some 1,700 employees with lose their jobs due to the closures. 720 additional staff are being kept on to assist with the closure, meaning the total number of job losses will reach 2,400.
“It is a very sad day for the staff working at those locations and our thoughts are with them. We will make every effort to help the affected staff,” added Hunt.
EE and Vodafone have both decided to buy some Phones 4U stores following the news of the retailer’s fall into administration.
EE will buy 58 stores, while Vodafone will take over 140 outlets. EE has said that it will safeguard 359 jobs.
Last week, Dixons Carphone announced that it will offer jobs to 800 of Phones 4U’s employees. Those who currently work at the 160 Phones 4U concession stands found in Currys and PC World will be offered the chance to continue working there as the stands are rebranded to Dixons Carphone.
