Synology says it’s the first NAS (network attached storage) vendor to launch a product based on the Intel Avoton platform.
The company revealed a new DS415+ NAS at a launch event at the end of last week, which uses an Intel Avoton C2538 Quad Core 2.4Ghz CPU.
The product – which launches this week priced at £450 including VAT – has a read speed of 235.04MB/s and a write speed of 233.51MB/s, with encryption acceleration at over 234.97MB/s reading and 213.14MB/s writing. It features 2 LAN with Failover and Link Aggregation Support, plus it is VMware, Citrix & Microsoft Hyper-V Certified.
"The DS415+ uses a new platform called Avoton from Intel, designed specifically for NAS," Synology UK MD Mike Chen told PCR.
"Intel is very selective in offering this new chipset, this new platform to its customers and we are the first NAS provider in the world to use Avoton. It has much better performance, encryption performance, more features and reliability.
"We’re the first one to use this. Don’t be surprised to see other NAS vendors using this platform in the future. We will continue to release Avoton series products."
Synology also showed off another new NAS – the budget-priced DS115j which costs £78 and includes 4TB of space. It has a read speed of 102.89MB/s and a write speed of 61.59MB/s.
Additionally, version 5.1 of its DSM OS adds the ability to sync to Microsoft’s Azure and OneDrive cloud services, as well as Amazon’s Glacier backup.
Synology’s goal for this year is to achieve growth of 50 per cent, and Chen says the firm is "on track" to do so.
