iOS 8 will be available for download today and feature a QuickType keyboard for 99 cents

First iPhone 6 reviews come in as iOS 8 launches

After the reveal of the iPhone 6 last week, the first reviews for the device have appeared online – and it’s good news for Apple.

Tech Crunch complimented Apple on the iPhone 6’s new design, praising its rounded edges that help to make the phone fit more comfortably in a users hand.

The Verge states that the inclusion of NFC, new Wi-Fi standards and a bottom-mounted speaker which is ‘louder and brighter than the 5S…make the iPhone feel more reliable and more polished’.

Tech Radar noted that the camera on the iPhone 6 protrudes slightly, which has been recognised positively as Apple hasn’t compromised on the camera’s quality to fit into the new slimmer design, rating it 4 and a half stars out of 5.

Engadget said that the screen resolution of 1920×1080 would provide a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch for a high definition display.

Stuff stated that the new design of the iPhone 6 featuring an all-metal back and curved edges was a positive: "The result is a phone that’s super-smooth in the hand with the joins between glossy screen and matte back almost unnoticable as you hold it." Overall the iPhone 6 got a rating of 5/5.

Mashable cited that the iPhone 6 is capable of up to 14 hours battery life, which when tested lasted for between 10 and 12 hours doing a mix of web browsing, photography, video and gaming.

CNET rated the Touch ID home button and praised the fact it has remained in the same position. The review gave the new iPhone 4 and a half stars out of 5 and mentioned that iOS 8 and Apple Pay will allow users to do a lot more with Touch ID, however ‘reaching that home button isn’t quite as easy with one hand as it was before’.

As well as this iOS 8 will be available for download today, which will feature Swype, a QuickType keyboard for 99 cents.

The operating system will also include tighter Mac OS X Yosemite integration and losen the restrictions on Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which will help to feature Apple Pay.
