Galaxy Tab Active and Smart MultiXpress shown off at IFA trade show in Germany

IFA 2014: Samsung introduces first B2B tablet and Android-powered printer

Samsung has developed its first B2B tablet – the Galaxy Tab Active – as well as the ‘world’s first’ printer powered by Android, the Smart MultiXpress.

The vendor showed off its new products at the IFA 2014 trade show in Germany this week.

The Galaxy Tab Active (pictured, right) is Samsung’s first tablet built specifically for business, featuring anti-shock covering that can withstand a 1.2-metre drop, as well as water and dust resistance with IP67 certification, a 3/1MP Auto Focus Camera that can scan barcodes, as well as a C-Pen, which provides professionals who may have to wear gloves, on a construction site for example, with an alternative input option to their finger.

It has an eight to ten hour battery life, with a detachable battery so workers can keep on going. Built-in Pogo pin charging prevents micro-USB connector damage while allowing for multi-device charging when returning to the office.

The Galaxy Tab Active is supported by Samsung Knox for a defence-grade mobile security solution, while a Smart Tutor Service gives each user a means to access technical support on the go.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active will come in a variety of connectivity options: Wi-Fi, or Wi-Fi and LTE available in 16GB + MicroSD (up to 64GB). The device is available in Titanium Green and it comes with the Protective Cover and the C-Pen.

“The enterprise technology landscape has shifted dramatically, driven by the demand for devices that appeal to consumers while being able to cope with the challenging requirements of professional use,” said Graham Long, Vice President Enterprise Business Team, Samsung UK & Ireland. “As a trusted global leader in mobile technology, Samsung clearly understands this and has developed solutions built specifically for enterprise users, with innovative product features and market-leading capabilities to help businesses thrive.”

Samsung also unveiled ten new multi-function printer (MFP) Smart MultiXpress models (pictured below) to the European market at its ‘Smart MultiXpress’ event at IFA. Samsung says MFPs are the first printers of their kind to be equipped with an Android operating system for business use.

The MFPs will feature Samsung’s Smart UX Center which operates independently without a PC, with app scalability.

The new Samsung Smart MultiXpress series of MFPs each feature a 10.1-inch full touchscreen panel that enables users to search and print from web browsers, emails, maps, images and other types of content – without the need to connect to a PC or server. The touchscreen also offers the ability to preview documents, as well as editing and annotating capabilities.

Furthermore, all Smart MultiXpress series MFPs are compatible with Samsung’s XOA (eXtensible Open Architecture) printing solution platform, and can be customised to meet specialised business needs.

When using the new Samsung NFC Pro accessory, the new MFPs allow users to print files from their smartphones.

Print output speed is up to 1.5 times faster than the previous 1GHz single-core CPU thanks to its 1GHz dual-core CPU.

“As Samsung continues to strive for user-focused innovation, the introduction of the first Android OS-equipped MFPs will enhance Samsung’s smart office experience for business customers” said Mark Ash, General Manager, Print Division, Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland. “Businesses seek smart printing solutions that can be managed easily whilst still delivering powerful performance at reduced costs. Our new print technology not only delivers all of these things but also ensures that super smart is also super simple.”
