Sony to launch PlayStation TV in UK; reveals 10m PS4s sold globally

Sony has made a number of announcements at Gamescom 2014, including the launch date for PlayStation TV in the US, UK and Europe.

The micro-console will take on streaming devices such as Apple TV and Roku. It will be available in the US on October 14th and in the UK and Europe on November 14th.

PlayStation TV will cost $99 in the US and 99 euros in Europe. The UK price has not yet been announced.

Like other streaming devices on the market, it will offer access to third-party apps like Netflix, but unlike those devices, PlayStation TV will allow users to access Sony’s games library via Remote Play.

The firm also revealed:

  • The PlayStation 4 has now sold over 10 million unit worldwide. The most recent data suggests that the PS4 is currently outselling Xbox One by a ratio of 3-to-1
  • DayZ will be heading to PS4
  • Far Cry 4 will come with ten free codes – an offer that won’t be available on Xbox
  • Streaming games service PlayStation Now will be released in the UK and Europe on 2015
