Gear VR headset could be unveiled at this year’s IFA

Samsung Galaxy Alpha launches; Gear VR headset photos leaked

Samsung has unveiled its latest smartphone, the Galaxy Alpha, which features an iPhone-esque metal body.

The device is equipped with a 4.7-inch HD Super AMOLED display, LTE, Android 4.4.4 KitKat, 12MP rear camera, 2.1MP front camera, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, and a 1,860mAh battery.

One of the biggest differences between the Alpha and other smartphones in the Galaxy range has to be its design.

Samsung has decided to give this device more of a squared-off look with flat metal sides. It’s not unfair to point out it really does have something of an ‘iPhone’ look about it.

As a lot of smartphones seem to move in the same direction in terms of design, it’s not unusual for new devices to look similar, but considering Samsung seems to thoroughly enjoy bashing Apple whenever it releases new product commercials, the look of the Alpha is a little bit of a surprise.

In other Samsung news, the firm’s highly rumoured virtual reality headset has shown up in a new photo leak.

Thought to be named the Gear VR, the headset picture was posted by The Verge and appears to have lenses that can turn a smartphone display into an immersive world.

PCR reported back in May that Samsung and Oculus were rumoured to be working together on a virtual reality headset.

New reports suggest that the Gear VR could be unveiled at IFA in September.
