During yesterday’s official launch of Dixons Carphone, deputy CEO, Andrew Harrison, revealed to PCR the retailer’s plans for its expansion.
There were seven stores-within-a-store that opened up on August 7th, with the retailer planning to open a further 30 by Christmas. The aim is to eventually have a Dixons Carphone in every Currys/PC World and Carphone Warehouse outlet.
“Probably 90 per cent of what is in the stores, you could pick up on a click and collect basis,” explained Harrision.
“We are keen to pick up those people who probably don’t want to drive 20/30 minutes out to go and pick up a smaller device. We’ll eventually be five minutes from most people’s home or office.”
During the grand opening of its Oxford Street store, Dixons Carphone CEO Sebastian James outlined the three things that will be ‘utterly critical’ for the next few years.
“Firstly, we must keep our underlying business doing a fantastic job and trading well – so far so good on that, and we’re looking forward to a good year. Secondly, we need to deliver the synergies that we promise and find out what we can do to streamline and make ourselves more efficient. And thirdly, we must, and will, build a fantastic services business. Not just for consumers but also for other businesses around the world,” said James.
Looking towards Christmas, Harrison revealed what new tech we can expect to see from the retailer: “We’re going to be mostly focussed on the new iPhone. There’s a huge amount of pent up demand for it. Also, Samsung have got what I personally think is their best product coming out – the Galaxy Alpha.”
He also predicted that wearables and home automation will be big this Christmas.
