It’s time to switch your motherboards for mortar boards – Back to School season is upon us once again.
The education sector remains a profitable sales avenue for computer resellers, with school IT investment at an all-time high, but the market is going through a period of change, presenting new challenges and opportunities to resellers.
A new computing curriculum will be introduced into schools from September, with a bigger focus on teaching children how to write code, program and understand how computers work – opening the door to devices like the Raspberry Pi mini-PC.
3D printers are still being pushed as educational devices, tablets have taken over the classroom, and the Internet of Things and virtual reality could shape it further.
But as technology improves, it’s important to ask if your local school is actually ready for it. My wife is a teacher so I often ask for her view on new tech aimed at schools. But when I do she always has the same response: “That’s nice, but there’s no budget for it.”
Teacher ‘favourite’ Michael Gove also stepped down as Education Secretary in July, so you can expect the sector to go through more changes in months to come.
