Images look similar to what Microsoft teased earlier in the year

Windows 9 start menu pictures leaked

Screenshots have been leaked allegedly showing the new design of the start menu for Windows 9 from Microsoft.

The images were disclosed on the My Digital Life Forums, as reported by Mashable, and look similar to the new start menu design Microsoft teased at its Build Developer conference back in April.

According to the screenshots, the menu’s size and style have stayed the same, while the tiles have been designed differently, suggesting an early build of Windows 9 was used to create the new format.

Another image shows a Windows Modern menu in a separate window.

The news comes after rumours suggested Windows 9 will launch this autumn and ditch activation keys. Others say Windows 9 ‘Threshold’ will not launch until spring 2015 at the earliest.

What is not clear, however, is whether the leaked images are of Windows 9 or an updated version of current OS Windows 8.1.

With Microsoft’s 2014 Worldwide Partner Conference currently taking place this week in Washington, perhaps the tech firm will reveal an official update. Check up on the PCR website this week for the latest news from the event.
