The Mayor of London Boris Johnson will help launch London Technology Week in June, which experts say could herald a new ‘golden era’ for the UK capital.
Johnson will be part of a panel that will kick off the series of events on June 16th, which aim to promote tech firms and start ups in London, in a bid to rival Silicon Valley in San Francisco.
Over 130 independently run events will take place between June 16th and 20th, with 30,000 expected to attend. Those taking part include Microsoft, Samsung, Google, Mind Candy and more.
Speaking at a media briefing this morning, Russ Shaw, founder of investor group Tech London Advocates, said: "This demonstrates the rapid growth of London tech. There’s no reason we can’t build this into same size and scale of CES and MWC and SXSW.
"London has mini tech hubs across the city. We cannot be complacent, particularly around the shortage of talent, but we could be at the start of a golden era for technology in London. It will be a great week for investors."
Kit Malthouse, Deputy Mayor of London for Business and Enterprise and Chairman of London & Partners, added: “London is a melting pot of tech talent, with thousands of ambitious companies looking to employ the best in the business and hungry investors looking to back a winning idea."
Highlights include ‘Samsung Future Technology Needs’ at 10 St Bride Street on June 16th, where TechUK and Samsung have teamed up to give tech practitioners the chance to meet and present ideas to their technology scouting team.
