Intel unveils new Chromebooks by Lenovo, Acer, Dell and more

New Chromebooks from Lenovo, Acer, Asus, Dell and Toshiba have been shown off an Intel event in San Francisco.

Intel plans to roll out as many as 20 new laptops running Google’s Chrome operating system by the end of 2014, all of which are set to be thinner, lighter and more powerful than previous models.

Most of the devices will be based on Intel’s Bay Trail-M SoC, which provides a longer battery life which will enable the Chrome OS laptops to run for up to 11 hours.

The Bay Trail models will also be the first Intel Chromebooks to be fanless, which in turn will make them 15 per cent lighter.

Intel revealed that the Chromebooks will have more diverse form factors, with some offering touchscreens and others having a folding display, such as Lenovo’s offerings.

In addition to the Chromebooks, Intel also introduced the HP Chromebox – a tiny desktop computer, as well as LG’s all-in-one Chromebase PC.
