“Our mission is to make the world more open and connected,” says Zuckerberg

Facebook buys Oculus Rift for $2bn

Facebook has announced that it will buy Oculus VR, the company behind the Rift headset, for $2 billion in cash and stock.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said that the firm’s mission is to make the world ‘more open and connected’.

Zuckerberg also posted on Facebook, revealling some of the firm’s plans Oculus VR’s tech.

“After games, we’re going to make Oculus a platform for many other experiences. Imagine enjoying a court side seat at a game, studying in a classroom of students and teachers all over the world or consulting with a doctor face-to-face – just by putting on goggles in your home."

A number of Oculus fans have already expressed their disapproval about the deal. How you ask? By leaving “DO NOT WANT” and “boycott” on the Facebook-powered comments section on the Oculus Blog via all their own Facebook accounts.
