Mobile network to also improve 2G voice connections

EE to launch ‘world’s fastest network’ in London

Mobile network EE is to give London ‘the fastest mobile network on the planet’.

The claims were made by EE CEO Olaf Swantee in an interview with Mobile World Live, where he discussed the network’s plansto boost the city’s mobile network connection speed to 300Mbps by adopting the LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) specification.

The improved network will initially launch in south London, followed by an expansion to cover the entire area within the M25 ring road.

“London used to be the city where everyone complained about mobile networks,” Swantee said.

“Now with EE you can make phone calls everywhere and you have the fastest speeds on the planet.”

He added that over 30 per cent of EE customers currently use 4G connections.

In addition to improving mobile internet speeds, EE is said to be investing £279 million into improving voice connections over 2G networks, particularly within rural areas.

"Network differentiation is not possible without voice, do not treat voice as a commodity," Swantee explained.
