The upcoming Boeing Black smartphone will wipe all data and make itself inoperable when cracked open.
The device, said to be “designed with security and modularity in mind”, runs on Android and includes a number of security features including disk encryption, hardware root of trust, crypto engine, embedded components, trusted platform modules, secure boot support and hardware modularity compatibility with additional components such as biometric scanners, satellite transceivers, solar-power chargers and more.
Perhaps the most intriguing of all the 4.3-inch phone’s defence mechanisms is the built-in Mission Impossible-style ‘self-destruct mode’.
The FCC filing for the phone explains that “the Boeing Black phone is manufactured as a sealed device both with epoxy around the casing and with screws, the heads of which are covered with tamper proof covering to identify attempted disassembly.”
“Any attempt to break open the casing of the device would trigger functions that would delete the data and software contained within the device and make the device inoperable,” adds the description.
The Boeing Black is yet to have a release date or price revealed.
