Scheme allows players to earn credit towards online purchases by playing games and earning achievements

Green Man Gaming launches Playfire Rewards beta

Green Man Gaming has launched the beta of its Playfire Rewards scheme.

The scheme allows players to earn credit towards purchases on the online retailer’s site by playing games for the first time, playing for a certain amount of hours and earning achievements using Steam.

Signing up to the Playfire newsletter and linking their Steam and Playfire accounts will also net players some credit.

Rewards run from 10p to 50p, and specific achievements and games are highlighted by the Playfire blog for those looking to earn credit.

“We’re excited to not only be rewarding our Playfire community for playing the games they own and love, but to also have their support and input as together we’re creating the world’s largest social commerce platform in the video game market,” said Paul Sulyok, CEO of Green Man Gaming.

“We’ve spent the past 12 months heavily investing in the Playfire service and have implemented over 1,000 new features and improvements based on feedback direct from the community. We have the roadmap, but they are very much in the driving seat.”

“The Playfire Rewards beta is integral to our long term, innovative digital strategy; to create a social commerce eco-system that reduces the cost of sale and wastage,” added Darren Cairns, EVP Marketing at Green Man Gaming.

“All of the insight we’re gaining through the beta and Playfire’s in-game tracking capabilities is helping us to build predictive models and accurate targeting mechanics based on actual in-game behaviour, rather than just purchasing or browsing history. By developing and investing in enhanced community services, we can better predict a player’s likely purchase propensity.”

The etailer, which launched in 2010, originally purchased the Playfire social platform in 2012. The service allows players to form communities around game titles and track achievements from platforms including Steam, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. Over 1.5 million players are currently registered with Playfire.
