Electronics retailer Maplin will open its first airport store in Glasgow airport next month.
Retail Week reports the 1,000 sq ft shop will act as a trial and to help Maplin improve UK brand awareness (which currently stands at seven per cent).
It will offer a click and collect service and contain three internet hubs, where consumers will be able to view Maplin’s product range.
Maplin chief executive John Cleland said: "The opportunity is browse time. People have more time at airports to browse and we can give them advice and solve their problem.
“There are still a lot of people who do not know us and this is an opportunity to improve that.”
The news comes after Maplin saw like-for-like sales rise five per cent in December. Cleland attributed this to strong Christmas sales of home built electronics kits, R/C toys, telescopes and CCTV products. Sales within the latter category rose 43.7 per cent in December.
