Having worked at Asda for over ten years, Alam has helmed several of the massive retailer’s buying teams, including electronics, and is well known for generating profit.
He was also responsible for the retailer’s highly successful tech-centric Black Friday sale last year.
MARCO ANDRESON, COUNTRY MANAGER, ACER UK
Appointed in November 2013, Andreson heads Acer’s operations in the UK, overseeing the launch of the popular PC manufacturer’s latest tablets and computers in the region – as well as the recent restructure of Acer UK.
He holds a degree in business economics from Umea? University, Sweden.
JON ATHERTON, DIRECTOR, ENTATECH
2013 was a fantastic year for both Entatech and Atherton. The company has achieved 18 per cent year-on-year growth, bolstered by a new southern sales office and warehouse expansion.
A keen golfer and family man, Atherton has won a host of industry awards and collected several PCR Awards on behalf of Entatech.
SIMON BARRY, TECH TRADING MANAGER, ARGOS
Barry joined Argos in 2011 and heads up a team of nearly 30 people. He has driven revenues and growth, promotions and communication across multiple categories, including involvement in the retailer’s partnership with eBay.
He studied Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde.
ANDY BASS, EXEC VP FOR EUROPE, MD AND CEO, TOSHIBA UK
Bass steered Toshiba’s UK arm as it recovered from the failure of HD DVD and became a best-selling DVD player manufacturer in 2009. With over a decade at the company on both sides of the Atlantic, he is known for his adept skill in identifying and executing successful market strategies.
SIR TIM BERNERS-LEE, INVENTOR OF THE WEB
Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web in 1989, writing the first web client and server in 1990.
He has since worked as an advocate for the use of the internet; becoming director of the web standards organisation the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and campaigning for open government data.
PATRICK BLIEMER, REGIONAL MANAGER, NORTHERN EUROPE, INTEL
Bliemer is responsible for all sales development, marketing and branding undertaken by Intel across the UK, making him the man in charge of making Intel continue to look good.
He is an Intel veteran, working there since 1996. Bliemer loves biking and is a collector of fine wines.
JASON BRADBURY, PRESENTER, WRITER
Bradbury is best known for presenting The Gadget Show, on which he has achieved seven Guinness World Records and built a number of DIY techno inventions – including a working hoverboard.
He has also spread the word of tech through text, writing for several magazines and releasing a trilogy of tech-based thriller novels.
MATT BRITTIN, VP, NORTHERN AND CENTRAL EUROPE, GOOGLE
Before becoming VP of the search giant, Brittin became MD for Google UK in 2009, and defended the company against questions over its tax arrangements in front of the UK government Public Accounts Committee.
He is also a world-class rower, representing Great Britain at the 1988 Olympics.
PHIL BROWES, HEAD OF TECHNOLOGY AND GAMES, HMV
Browes drives the growth and profitability in the technology and games category at one of the High Street’s biggest multimedia retailers. He also played a part in its revival after it fell into administration in early 2013.
He holds a BA (Hons.) and MA from Southampton Solent University.
MIKE BULEY, RETAIL DIRECTOR, EXERTIS MICRO-P
Buley has focused on the complexity, needs and demands of a successful retail business, leading to 150 per cent growth in Exertis Micro-P’s retail business. The distributor has also picked up several industry awards over the years.
He participates in all Exertis Micro-P charity activities.
JOHN CLELAND, CEO, MAPLIN
A former grocery veteran responsible for the sale of Somerfield to The Co-operative Group, Cleland took control of Maplin in 2012, where he quickly announced major plans for a three-year £40 million investment in new stores and multi-channel schemes to boost the retailer’s presence on the UK High Street.
WAYNE COCKERILL, CHAIRMAN, NETWORK BUYING GROUP
A veteran of the IT market with nearly three decades of experience, Cockerill worked his way up to become director and partner of Aindale, before taking control as owner. Following this acquisition, he became chairman of the NBG – one of the UK industry’s largest buying groups.
ED CONNOLLY, BUYING DIRECTOR, ELECTRICALS AND HOME TECHNOLOGY, JOHN LEWIS
Connolly is responsible for the senior leadership of one of three buying directorates at John Lewis. His department accounts for one-third of the High Street retailer’s divisional sales.
He brings to the role adept retail experience, including past work at Tesco.

As CPO, Crothers leads procurement and related policy affecting the Government’s £45 billion annual budget, which covers IT and more.
He also leads the management of relationships with the Government’s main suppliers in the industry, as head of the efficiency cluster.

A passionate advocate of independent retail and small businesses, Cubbage has spearheaded Target’s customer-focused approach leading to a number of impressive support innovations for the firm.
Cubbage, an animal lover, gamer and Bolton Wanderers supporter, is accompanied to work every day by his dogs.
BRUCE DAISLEY, MD, TWITTER UK
Daisley was appointed to his current role at the UK wing of Twitter in September 2013.
Daisley was Twitter’s first sales director when he joined the micro-blogging site in January 2012, and built the quick-growing company’s ad sales team and appealing commercial proposition.
Outside of work, Daisley is a big fan of pop music.
LINDSAY EVANS, BUYING MANAGER OF ELECTRICALS, SAINSBURY’S
An experienced retail buyer, having worked as a Senior Buyer at Argos for almost a decade, Evans has since contributed to the tech push of one of the UK’s biggest retailers since 2011, when she took up the role of Senior Buyer of New Technology at Sainsbury’s, before moving to her current position in 2012.
STEPHEN FENBY, MD, MIDWICH
Fenby has been instrumental in the development of distributor Midwich over the last few years, including leading the group’s acquisitions of UK and overseas businesses as part of its rapid growth.
Outside of work, he enjoys an eclectic mix of hobbies – including triathlon, classical music and wine.

Fletcher specialises in television, tablet, audio and mobile purchases for Toys R Us globally, as well as evaluation and planning of the range and selection of technology products. In his role, he directly influences the output of one of the foremost child-focused retailers in the UK.
DUNCAN FORSYTH, MD, WESTCOAST
Forsyth has led one of the UK’s biggest distributors to massive success, striking deals with big names such as HP, Toshiba and Samsung and generating annual profit of nearly £1 billion.
A mark of the firm’s success is its consistent appearance in the Sunday Times’ list of top 100 Privately Owned UK Companies.
STEPHEN FRY, CELEB TECH ENTHUSIAST
Renowned as a comedian, presenter (mainly of QI) and author, Fry is also one of Britain’s best-known tech lovers, having purchased the second ever Mac computer sold in Europe.
He spreads his love of tech through his tweets, podcasts, websites and weekly gadget column. He has also voice- acted in several video games.
MARTYN GIBBS, CEO, GAME RETAIL
Responsible for the UK’s largest specialist video game retailer, industry veteran Gibbs led Game Retail in rapidly turning its fortune around following the Game Group’s administration in early 2012.
He was awarded the Special Recognition prize at the MCV Awards 2013 and is a huge fan of 24 and Lost.
DARREN GRASBY, CORPORATE VP AND GM EMEA, AMD
Grasby is responsible for driving growth in the EMEA region and managing all regional sales and marketing activities, including the successful launch of the Radeon R9 290X.
He has over 20 years of experience in the industry, including the creation of several other companies.
TIM GRIFFIN, VP AND MD, DELL UK
Griffin has been instrumental for driving an organisational transformation of Dell UK and ensuring that the major PC maker has the right requirements in place to drive market momentum and build a strong customer base in the UK.
Griffin holds a degree and an MBA, and enjoys coaching rugby and watching sport.
ANDY GRIFFITHS, MD, SAMSUNG UK AND IE
Griffiths is in charge of overseeing Samsung’s portfolio of devices, and has driven some of the firm’s biggest campaigns including sponsorship of the 2012 London Olympics and the launch of the Galaxy smartphone range.
He is heavily involved in many initiatives which give opportunities to youth.
STEVE HATCH, MD, FACEBOOK UK
The first regional director of Facebook for the UK and Ireland, Hatch leads a crew of over 150 staff for the ubiquitous social network. His employment marked a distinctive step for the company, bringing a wealth of expertise to the role.
Hatch is co-author of a book on communication called Rigorous Magic.
DARREN HOUGHTON, UK GM, EXERTIS GEM
Previously involved in the launch of three major games consoles, Houghton joined Exertis Gem in 2001 as a consultant, and has used his breadth of experience to highlight the firm as one of the biggest distributors in the UK industry.
He has previously pursued a career in TV, and worked at the BBC as a teenager.
PETER HUBBARD, MANAGING DIRECTOR, TECH DATA UK AND IE
Hubbard was appointed Managing Director in January 2012 after 11 years at Dell where he held a number of key roles, including VP of the Public Sector and UK MD.
His skill and experience are certain to contribute to the continuing development and growth of Tech Data.
ANDY ISHERWOOD, MD, UK AND IRELAND, HP
Isherwood became UK MD in October 2013, having previously managed HP’s enterprise business in EMEA, holding responsibility for the sales of HP products and services into the company’s top 5,000 accounts.
He holds a degree in Business Studies and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Since 1996 London-born Jonathan Ive has been responsible for leading a design team widely regarded as one of the world’s best, with iconic Apple products featured in the collections of museums worldwide.
He has been named Designer of the Year and awarded the title Royal Designer for Industry.
SEBASTIAN JAMES, CEO, DIXONS
James has been the CEO and director of the UK’s largest High Street electrical retailer since February 2012, following several years helping to guide it to its successful position today.
James, who is an Oxford graduate and obtained an MBA from INSEAD, has also held board directorships of three start-up companies.
DEREK JONES, MD, SYNAXON UK LIMITED
Working at the German parent company of Synaxon during 2008 before helping to launch it in the UK in 2009, Jones has since directed the UK business and established it as one of the biggest companies within its field.
In the spare time that he has, Jones says that he is an avid reader and an enthusiastic golfer.
AARON LEE, TECHNOLOGY CATEGORY MANAGER, TESCO
Lee is responsible for the purchase, merchandising and product development of the technology at one of the UK’s biggest retailers. He was instrumental during the launch of the Hudl, which made Tesco one of the first retailers to offer an own-brand tablet, starting a trend that looks set to continue.
CARLOS MAIA, MD OF UK RETAIL AND PORTUGAL, STAPLES
Following a highly successful run as chief of Staples Portugal, during which he opened 35 stores and launched online and B2B elements for the retailer, Maia’s responsibilities were extended to include the UK operations for the office supply chain – and he looks set to continue his success.
BRENT MCCARTY, VPOFUKANDIEANDUK MD, INGRAM MICRO
McCarty is responsible for further developing and enhancing Ingram Micro’s strong market position in the UK and Ireland, heading a team of over 400 employees. He also led the Ingram Micro Consumer Electronics Division in the US, driving it to profitability and considerable expansion.
CHRISTOPHER NORTH, MD, AMAZON.CO.UK
North took control of the online retail giant at the start of 2011, and has overseen the investment of over £1 billion into the UK, massive expansion and a continuing popularity among consumers, including being voted the UK’s favourite brand in a 2012 survey.
Before joining Amazon, he worked in book publishing.
KEITH RAMSDALE, VP AND GM NORTHERN EUROPE, EA
Responsible for the European content of one of the biggest video game publishers in the world, Ramsdale has specialised in EA’s digital, mobile and retail offerings.
He is a member of the UKIE Board, which champions the UK video game industry, and served as chairman for the London Games Festival.
RAFI RAZZAK, FOUNDER AND CHAIRMAN, CENTERPRISE
Razzak has led Centerprise to become one of the biggest IT services providers in the UK, with its success apparent in its place as the longest-standing provider to the Ministry of Defence.
He is the son of a former Prime Minister of Iraq, and he is a director and investor in online marketplace OnBuy.
JATTI SAHNI, CHAIRMAN, VIP GROUP
Sahni was responsible for the start-up of VIP Computers in 1990. His long-term strategic focus secured strong year-on-year growth for the VIP Group. He then followed 16 years of growth with two major acquisitions – PC gaming-specialist Realtime Distribution in 2006 and system builder CMS Computers in 2011.
IAIN SHAW, FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR, BRIGANTIA
After a brief spell as a director and shareholder in the Computer Office Group, Shaw formed the Brigantia Group as a group for small to medium-size computer solution providers in 1998. Brigantia has developed over the years and now offers a wide portfolio of services and products for its members.
VAUGHAN SHAYLER, DIRECTOR OF CHANNEL STRATEGY, UK, COMPTIA
Shayler is responsible for ensuring the organisation represents and engages with the entire UK channel, helping to unify and boost the industry.
Away from work, Shayler spends most of his time involved in junior sport, coaching local youth cricket, rugby and football clubs.
JOANNA SHIELDS, CEO OF TECH CITY UK AND BUSINESS AMBASSADOR FOR DIGITAL INDUSTRIES
Previously building some of the world’s biggest tech firms, while at Tech City, Shields has launched a new segment for the London Stock Exchange and created the Fifty Future scheme.
She has received many awards, including Most Influential Woman in UK IT.
ROY STACKHOUSE, GM UK AND IRELAND, ACTIVISION BLIZZARD
Stackhouse has overseen the UK operations of video game publishing giant Activison Blizzard since early 2013. Championing a focus on giving gamers what they want, he led the firm as Call of Duty: Ghosts was released.
He received the Special Recognition prize at the MCV Awards 2010.
LORD ALAN SUGAR, BUSINESS MAGNATE, POLITICAL ADVISOR
One of the UK’s best-known businessmen, Sugar founded Amstrad, one of the UK’s best-known consumer electronics wholesalers.
He has also contributed to several other industry sectors, and inspired and contributed to the growth of the industry through The Apprentice TV series.
MASARU TAMAGAWA, PRESIDENT, SONY EUROPE
Tamagawa took the reins of Sony Europe in July 2012, after leading Sony India to the top share of the Indian electronics market.
He is one of the strongest voices for the ‘One Sony’ campaign, which aims to unify the firm’s entertainment and electronics arms in a bid to strengthen the company.
MICHEL VAN DER BEL, MD, MICROSOFT UK AND VP, MICROSOFT INTERNATIONAL
A 13-year Microsoft veteran, Van der Bel holds a track record of building diverse teams, developing relationships, improving sales and operational excellence.
Van der Bel has a MBA and background in electronics. In his free time, he enjoys sport and playing the piano.

Well regarded by members of the industry as a skilled professional in his field, Warren moved to etailer eBuyer following almost 17 years at Maplin. Now in charge of the product selection for one of the UK’s major online retailers, Warren continues to hold a massive influence over the UK tech retail market.

At Nvidia since January 2011, Wright has played a pivotal role in expanding distribution networks and sits at the forefront of Nvidia’s channel business. Overseeing the development of Nvidia’s European business sales strategy, he ended 2013 with record-breaking success.

An Asus veteran, Yeh has overseen the operations of the popular PC maker in the UK during several significant product launches and the firm’s rise to become the third biggest tablet maker in Europe during 2013.
