Others named in New Year's Honours list

Tech City UK’s Joanna Shields awarded OBE

Tech City UK chief executive Joanna Shields has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list.

She was recognised for services to the digital industries and voluntary service to young people.

Shields heads up Tech City UK – the government investment initiative that helps tech companies start up and provides support for East London’s tech hub (also known as the Silicon Roundabout).

She joined Tech City UK after leaving Facebook as EMEA MD and VP in 2012.

Other names recognised in the 2014 New Year’s Honours list include OBE Michael Acton Smith (from kids’ entertainment firm Mind Candy), OBE Penny Power (business social network Ecademy) and Margaret McKenna (online training firm Learning Pool).

Dr Jenifer Tennison also received an OBE. She works for the Open Data Institute which advises companies on making data available to the public.

Additionally, Michael Bracken (Government Digital Service) and Richard Eyre (Internet Advertising Bureau) received CBEs.
