Expands with the launch of a Roku application and new UK partnership with Midwich

Livestream plots European success

A manufacturer of software and hardware tools for live streaming wants to replicate its US success in the UK.

Established in 2007, Livestream broadcasts events from rock concerts to fashion shows – and says it wants to make every event in the world live.

It has more than 30 million viewers who watch over 75,000 live events each month from customers including The New York Times, Facebook and ESPN. But the firm believes there is still plenty of room to grow.

Speaking about Midwich coming on board to distribute Livestream’s line of hardware and software solutions in the UK, Jeff Varnell, executive VP of business development (pictured, second from right), told PCR: “Our goal is to make every event in the world live. We’ve been doing a pretty good job in the United States making this happen and we want to extend that to the European market.”

As well as moving into the UK, Livestream is focusing heavily on the connected TV market and has just launched a Roku app.

“We work on every device – Android, iPhone, computer and now Roku,” said Corey Behnke, head of global production services (pictured left).

“Roku has 12 per cent of the market share for connected TV, Apple TV has around 40 per cent – so our new play is connected TVs. It’s a huge, huge market.”
