Pokémon X and Y catch ’em all; sell over four million units in two days

Pokémon X and Y sold over four million copies in the two days since their launch, Nintendo has announced.

The latest titles in the popular monster-catching series, X and Y were the first Pokémon games to be released worldwide on the same date. The four million copies were sold across Japan, Europe and the Americas on Saturday October 12th and Sunday October 13th.

"The early response to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y not only reaffirms the ongoing passion of Pokémon fans, but also indicates that an entirely new generation of gamers is eager to experience the franchise for itself," said Nintendo President Satoru Iwata in the company’s press release of the news.

While the simultaneous launch makes the games’ popularity hard to compare to previous Pokémon titles, if separate regional data was compared X and Y would be the fastest selling 3DS titles of all time and would be up on sales from the last generation of Pokémon games – Black and White – by 70 per cent.
