Executive VP says move due to lack of demand

T-Mobile US stores no longer stocking BlackBerry

T-Mobile US is to withdraw BlackBerry smartphones from sale in its stores, following a lack of demand.

T-Mobile US, which is the fourth largest wireless service provider in America, says that it will instead ship the phones directly to customers.

“Keep stock in the retail distribution system was inefficient,” T-Mobile US executive vice president David Carey told Reuters.

He went on to explain that BlackBerry devices weren’t in high demand and that most of T-Mobile’s Blackberry sales were made to companies who didn’t purchase in-store.

"Therefore we will display and sell it in the store for those consumers who would like to see one," Carey added.

Blackberry has struggled in the past few years, recently announcing that it had agreed to a $4.7 billion (£2.93 billion) sale, following a 40 per cent layoff of its global workforce and reorganisation of its smartphone arm in order to combat Q2 losses of $995 million (£624 million).
