Games publisher clarifies situation

EA: ‘Apple paid us truckloads of money’ quote “taken out of context”

EA has clarified Frank Gibeau’s quote that implied Apple paid the publisher "truckloads of money" to hold off on launching Plants vs Zombies 2 on Android.

The games publisher says that the quote was "taken out of context" and caused an "unfortunate misunderstanding".

In a statement sent to PCR, an EA spokesperson said: "A comment from an internal meeting taken out of context has created an unfortunate misunderstanding. Reports of a paid relationship between Apple and EA are factually inaccurate, and we apologise for any confusion.”

Plants vs Zombies 2 is available on Apple iOS devices and will launch on Android at a later date. It has been downloaded more than 25 million times to date.
