Apple has begun to refund iTunes users who purchased the final season of Breaking Bad.
The move follows criticism of Apple over the splitting of Breaking Bad’s fifth season into two halves – which resulted in fans paying twice for what Breaking Bad’s creators and producer AMC had referred to as a single season.
Some users had even gone so far as to issue lawsuits against Apple, citing “deceptive and unfair sales practices.”
The $22.99 for the second half of the season will be refunded to users, making the entire 16-episode run equivalent in price to previous seasons.
The email from Apple reads:
We apologize for any confusion the naming of "Season 5" and "The Final Season" of Breaking Bad might have caused you. While the names of the seasons and episodes associated with them were not chosen by iTunes, we’d like to offer you "The Final Season" on us by providing you with the iTunes code below in the amount of $22.99. This credit can also be used for any other content on the iTunes Store. Thank you for your purchase.
The first half of the fifth season (eight episodes) has been sold on DVD and Bluray elsewhere as ‘Breaking Bad: The Fifth Season’.
The last episode of Breaking Bad will be shown on American TV this Sunday (September 29th), followed by it becoming available on Netflix on Monday, which has UK exclusivity on the last season.
