“Linux platform is the future of gaming,” says Valve co-founder

Newell hints Valve’s Steam Box will be unveiled next week

During a presentation at LinuxCon 2013, Gabe Newell teased that there will be some hardware news next week.

Newell spoke about Linux as a platform that will drive PC gaming where closed systems fail.

"Next week we’re going to be rolling out more information about how we get there and what are the hardware opportunities that we see for bringing Linux into the living room, and potentially pointing further down the road to how we get it even more unified with mobile," he said.

This comment seems to be strongly hinting at Valve’s Steam Box.

Newell told those attending the presentation that there are now 198 Steam games running on Linux and the platform is ‘the future of gaming’.

He also revealed that Valve is co-developing a Linux debugger to help with future software developments.
