The Sony Xperia Z1 smartphone was revealed to the world at IFA 2013 in Berlin today by Sony president Kaz Hirai, who described it as a "watershed moment" for the company.
The product will arrive starting this month. It features a Time Shift Burst that can capture 61 images in two seconds, a 20.7-Megapixel camera and ‘Clear’ image zoom that gives three times zoom with "zero loss in clarity". It will have a five-inch screen and be powered by a Snapdragon processor.
Every Xperia Z1 sold in Germany and certain other markets will come with €100 worth of music and movie content, including the movie Elysium for free. The phone also integrates Walkman music content and apps.
Social Live lets users broadcast content to their friends onto their Facebook page quickly.
Sony also mentioned its Smartwatch 2 and a smartphone imaging stand will arrive this month.
"The Xperia Z1 is truly a watershed moment in Sony’s history," said Sony president and CEO Kaz Hirai.
"Z1 is at the heart of Sony’s hardware ecosystem and will have an imaging experience you’ll find only in a Sony smartphone.
"We hope the product moves you in powerful and relevant ways, and we couldn’t be more excited about [launching it into] the European market."
