Developer steps back from the games industry after heated debate with journalist 'AnnoyedGamer' aka Marcus Beer

Fez 2 cancelled following Phil Fish Twitter row

Fez 2 has been cancelled and will not see the light of day on Xbox Live or PC.

Creator of the original Fez game, Phil Fish, confirmed the cancellation of the sequel, along with his decision to step back game development, reports MCV.

Fez 2 was announced just last month at E3.

Fish’s announcement comes following a Twitter row with several users including GameTrailers journalist Marcus Beer (also known as ‘AnnoyedGamer’). It originally started with Beer asking Fish about his thoughts on the upcoming Xbox One console and the possibility of it allowing developers to self-publishing games.

Fish said: “Fez II is cancelled. I am done. I take the money and I run. This is as much as i can stomach. This is isn’t the result of any one thing, but the end of a long, bloody campaign. You win.”

The Fez creator said it wasn’t a single situation that led to the cancellation of Fez II and his departure from the industry, but a series of events and interactions over time.

Fez launched on Xbox Live and PC earlier this year.
