'Mood-piece' trailer wows fans at Comic-Con convention in San Diego

Warcraft movie to enter production in 2014

A Warcraft movie from Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros will begin production in early 2014.

The news comes after a ‘mood-piece’ trailer was presented to fans at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con, reports Polygon.

There’s been talk of a World of Warcraft movie for years, but this latest trailer confirms the film will just be titled Warcraft. This hints it will be based on Blizzard’s long-running strategy franchise as a whole, rather than specifically focused on the popular online computer game World of Warcraft, which launched back in 2004.

The trailer was a mix of live action and computer generated imagery, and showed a human warrior fighting an orc. It will not be released outside of Comic-Con.

Warcraft will be directed by Duncan Jones of Moon and Source Code fame. The movie was going to be directed by Sam Raimi, but he departed the project to work on Oz: The Great and Powerful.

"We are excited about the Warcraft movie, which begins production in 2014, and we look forward to sharing more in the future," Blizzard said in a statement.

World of Warcraft is still the most popular PC MMORPG with some eight million paying subscribers.
