Panel designed to make devices easier to grip

LG unveils world’s slimmest 1080p smartphone LCD

LG Display has introduced a Full HD smartphone LCD measuring just 2.2mm thick.

The firm boasts that this is the world’s slimmest 1080p LCD panel designed for mobile devices.

The panel measures 5.2-inches diagonally and has a 2.3mm bezel. To achieve this, LG says it has pioneered new technology including ‘Advanced One-Glass-Solution’. This process puts dual flexible circuits between the touch film and the panel resulting in 30 per cent fewer lines on the panel.

With a very small bezel, the screen could provide larger display space on smartphones. LG says the panel will make devices easier to grip and lighter in weight.

A smaller bezel seems to be something other manufacturers are also working on in a bid to get a much screen space as possible without having overgrown devices.

Sony recently announced the VAIO Duo 13, pointing out that it is the same size at the previous model but due to a smaller bezel has a 30 per cent larger screen.

It is also rumoured that Apple’s iPad 5 will have no bezel, indicating that the device will also keep its 9.7-inch size but with more screen space.

LG is expected to announced a new flagship smartphone on August 7th, we’ll be looking to see if features this new screen.
