Alicia Keys is behind BlackBerry's new careers campaign

BlackBerry launches Scholars scheme to support women in technology

BlackBerry’s global creative director Alicia Keys is fronting the firm’s new female-friendly programme.

The BlackBerry Scholars scheme aims to support women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) markets.

The global initiative will offer ten four-year university scholarships to ‘outstanding’ female applicants, and BlackBerry adds females account for over 55 per cent of its customer base.

Women in the UK are eligible to apply from now until 9PM GMT on June 26th 2013, with successful entrants securing degrees from accredited colleges and universities. Keys will lead the panel of ‘accomplished women’ choosing the scholars.

The popstar-cum-BlackBerry global creative director commented: "Women are underrepresented in fields of science and technology, and we feel strongly that it’s time to drive a change. It’s important to connect the dots for young women in secondary school and college, and show them that careers in science and technology are within their reach. And when women do land these jobs, it’s vital they receive the mentoring and support they need to advance in their careers.

"I’m proud BlackBerry is demonstrating leadership in women’s education, both in school and in the workplace, and giving back to its most loyal users in such a profound way."
