Google quietly changed its developer guidelines overnight to ban porn apps

Google Glass bans porn after Tits & Glass app

Last week, the first-ever porn app for Google Glass was launched. Now Google has officially banned all sexually explicit material from being developed for the Glass store.

The app, Tits & Glass, allows users to record themselves having sex from their own perspective and while the developer, MiKandi, closely followed the developer guidelines, Google quietly changed them overnight so it could ban the app.

Part of its ‘content policies’ sections now reads: "We don’t allow Glassware content that contains nudity, graphic sex acts, or sexually explicit material. Google has a zero-tolerance policy against child pornography. If we become aware of content with child pornography, we will report it to the appropriate authorities and delete the Google Accounts of those involved with the distribution."

MiKandi’s CEO Jesse Adams remains committed to the app and believes that with a few changes it can still follow the above guidelines. "When we received our Glass and started developing our app 2 weeks ago, we went through the policy very carefully to make sure we were developing the app within the terms. We double checked again last week when making the site live on the Internet and available for install for testing during last week’s announcement. We were not notified of any changes and still haven’t been notified by Google.

"Although the app is still live and people are using it, at this point we must make changes to the app in order to comply with the new policies. Expect to see changes to the application tomorrow."

What’s quite astonishing is that Google didn’t think to put that information in its developer guidelines in the first place. Whether it’s there or not, and regardless of whether there’s a dedicated app, if people want to film themselves having sex on their own Google Glass they will, in the same way anyone with a smartphone or a camera will.
