SanDisk partners with WD to launch SSHD range

WD is to collaborate with SanDisk to produce its new range of SSHD devices.

The leading storage vendors have announced they will team up in order to produce the WD Black branded solid-state hybrid drives.

WD says its SSHD devices take up nearly 50 per cent less volume than traditional laptop storage devices as a result of the small size of SanDisk’s iSSD, which is produced using 19-nanometer process technology.

SanDisk is set to supply the brand’s own iSSD storage device for the WD Black SSHD, which will offer 32GB of iSSD storage, whilst offering a total of 500GB made up of both iSSD and platter-based storage.

The WD Black measures in at just 5mm thick and sports a standard SATA3 connection, whilst retaining the 2.5-inch traditional laptop design. In addition to the 5mm device, the Black range also offers both 7mm and 9.5mm editions.
