Storage manufacturer Freecom has bagged a collection of design awards over the last couple of years, most recently receiving an iF Gold accolade for its new Freecom Mobile Drive Sq.
A few years ago, the firm implemented a new strategy to bring contemporary industrial designers on board, and it’s worked out well.
For example German industrial designer Arman Emami, who has won many design awards, crafted the entire product Sq line for Freecom.
The Mobile Drive XXS meanwhile is the work of Silvain Willenz, another well-known product designer. In this case, Freecom had asked for a small, slim and no-fuss new design. In response, Willenz skipped the usual ordinary aluminium or hard plastic enclosure and instead decided to wrap the hard drive directly in a rubber sleeve.
