New Android tablet set to take on Google and Apple 7-inch devices

Samsung unveils the Galaxy Tab 3; 7-inch tablet gets global release in May

Samsung has today announced its latest tablet, the Galaxy Tab 3, a 7-inch tablet to compete with the likes of the iPad mini and the Nexus 7.

The Korean firm has shaved an inch off its Galaxy tablet in a bid to put the device in direct completion with the most popular 7-inch tablets currently on the market.

The Tab 3 has a 1.2GHz processor, 8GB or 16GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, and microSD slot for up to 64GB of additional storage.

The device has a WSVGA display with 1024×600 resolution. In comparison, the Nexus 7 has 1280×800 pixels. However the Tab 3 is slimmer than the Nexus 7, measuring just 9.9mm compared to 10.45mm for Google’s 7-inch tablet.

With a Li-ion 4,000 mAh battery, the Tab 3 runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and has a 3MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front facing one.

A WiFi version of the Galaxy Tab 3 will be available globally at the beginning of May with a 3G version to follow in June.
