Leaked images reveal the Acer Iconia W3, which would be the first eight-inch tablet powered by Windows 8

First eight-inch Windows 8 tablet leaked

Following Microsoft’s confirmation it would look to release smaller Windows 8 powered tablets, images leaked online appear to reveal the first.

Tech site Minmachines first published the images, which show off an eight-inch Acer tablet, labelled as the Iconia W3.

Shown to be running Windows 8, the Iconia W3 is said to sport a dual-core Atom Z2760 processor with hyper-threading, clocked at 1.8GHz. Hardly the most powerful device on the market, but the device would seemingly value size over performance.

Additional specs of the W3 are said to include 2GB of RAM, dual camera, speaker set-up and ports for microUSB and microSDHC.

Whilst the Iconia W3 is yet to be confirmed, the fact that Acer has since asked Minimachines to take down the image would certainly indicate its existence.

The leak follows comments made by Microsoft’s soon-to-leave CFO Peter Klein, who stated that the firm would look to work "closely with OEMs on a new suite of small touch devices powered by Windows."

It turns out Klein wasn’t kidding. But whilst Microsoft may have been referring to the rumoured plans for a seven-inch Surface tablet, it appears Acer beat them to the punch with its own device.
