Gaming peripherals maker Razer has opted to honour orders made by customers who used an unauthorised discount code to gain heavily discounted products.
The code, which provided customers with a 90 per cent discount on Razer products, was produced by a third-party firm and was unauthorised by Razer themselves.
Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan took to the firm’s Facebook to address the issue, stating: "A few days ago, a coupon code that provided a discount of 90% off Razer products at our UK Razerzone store went viral and thousands of orders were placed in the space of a couple of hours."
However, despite the unauthorised use of the code, Tan maintains that Razer will honour orders made by gamers, granting customers the purchase of a single unit of each product ordered. Tan highlights that the firm will limit purchases to single items in order to prevent bulk buying with the intention of commerical gain.
"While we have the option of cancelling the orders legally, we’ve always had a customer comes first policy at Razer and in respect of this incident, we have decided to honor the orders that were placed using the unauthorized code by Razer fans buying single products for their own use," continued Tan.
Whilst honouring the orders, the firm is set to incur a huge loss as a result of the move.
"Unfortunately, as the products are being sold well below their cost, it will likely cost us an insane amount of losses to make good on the orders which will really really hurt us as we’re still a small company – that much said, we want to do right by the community."
Razer has also warned those customers who’ve placed orders using the code that shipment of products may take weeks given the high-demand and scale of orders.
It’s a sign of goodwill from a company that has often maintained a close relationship with its customers and core gaming fanbase, but one that will certainly leave the firm reeling.
